Seventy-one students received degrees at the spring 2025 Commencement Ceremony at Arkansas State University Querétaro.
QUERÉTARO – Arkansas State University Querétaro held its spring 2025 Commencement Ceremony on May 16.
Dr. Jim Washam, Dean of the Neil Griffin College of Business, conferred 71 degrees to students from the university’s four colleges during the ceremony held at Campus Querétaro.
Amanda López Hernández addressed the audience on behalf of the graduating class. ” Life isn’t just about what’s next. It’s about being present in the moment, it’s about learning to appreciate every late-night study session, every nerve-wrecking moment before getting a final grade, every setback, and every success.” said Ms. López Hernández.
Ms. López Hernández is graduating Cum Laude, with a double major in Business Economics and Finance. She has been very active during her time at A-State. Amanda is the president and founder of the Economic Research Club. She coordinated the university research journal The Wolf Street Journal. She represented the student community when speaking with former presidential candidate Jorge Alvarez Maynez.
We had 71 graduating seniors, including 8 seniors graduating with a double major, 34 graduating with 1 minor, and 6 with a double minor. It also includes 19 distinguished undergraduate students with various academic honors, identified by the white, red, and gold honors cords. We have 10 Cum Laude, 8 Magna Cum Laude, and 1 Summa Cum Laude.
The selected winner for the Ricardo Gonzáles Valdés Award, presented annually for outstanding graduating seniors based on character, determination, involvement and academic achievement was Luz Mariana González Vega.
Ms. González Vega is graduating Magna Cum Laude with a major in Biotechnology and minors in Biology and Chemistry. Her academic journey is marked by outstanding achievements, including winning a bronze medal in the iGEM Design League for a project on antifreeze proteins to protect crops, conducting cancer and Chagas disease research at INMEGEN, and co-founding the Molecular Evolution and Bioinformatics Lab at A-State Querétaro. She has actively contributed to academic life through events like STEM Week, Create@CQ-AState, and the Evolutionary Trends Meeting, while also showing a strong commitment to her community through volunteer work with Primera Infancia Querétaro. Luz embodies determination, intellectual curiosity, and generosity, and we are proud to celebrate her today.
40% of our graduate students have secured employment or received job offers, and 20% are in the process of starting a master’s degree, a source of immense pride for our entire community.
