Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas Opened a Space for Dialogue with University Students at Arkansas State University

Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas

The participation of new generations, the challenges of the workforce, and the opportunities to build their future were the starting point of a meeting that brought university students closer to different perspectives on the development of Mexico.

On October 15, 2026, Arkansas State University welcomed Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas to the conference “Opening the Door to the Youth of Mexico,” held in the Great Hall Auditorium of the Elisia Education Hub campus.

Organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Colón, the meeting brought together the university community, academic authorities, and special guests in a space intended to promote critical thinking, idea exchange, and reflection on youth’s role in society.

University students facing a whole new generation of challenges

The transition from university to the professional world represents a stage of important decisions. Choosing a path, developing new skills, and finding opportunities to apply acquired knowledge are some of the challenges that accompany new generations.

In this context, Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas‘s visit brought students closer to a perspective on citizen participation, public, policy, and the challenges facing Mexican youth.

One of these challenges is access to a first job, particularly in the face of the so-called “experience trap,” a situation in which young people with academic preparation find it difficult to enter the labor market because employers require prior experience.

This issue, addressed by Colosio Riojas in previous public interventions, helped contextualize the importance of creating opportunities that connect university preparation with professional development.

A meeting to broaden perspectives and strengthen participation

Through “Opening the Door to Mexico’s Youth,” attendees had the opportunity to explore topics of public interest and reflect on the importance of participating in decisions that affect their communities. The participation of younger generations was central to an experience that highlighted the value of listening to diverse perspectives, questioning ideas, and developing a broader understanding of social challenges.

With a career that includes his service as a local representative in Nuevo León, mayor of Monterrey, and senator of Mexico, Colosio Riojas contributed his experience to the meeting in matters related to citizen participation, education, transparency, and social development.

University experiences that connect learning with reality

University education is also enriched through experiences that allow one to understand the environment, discover new perspectives, and recognize the impact that individual decisions can have on society.

At Arkansas State University, encounters like this conference complemented the academic experience by bringing students closer to public figures and conversations about topics that influence their present and future.

This openness to new perspectives is also part of a globally minded education. Through the international programs at Arkansas State University Querétaro and its sister university, Texas State University Querétaro, taught in English using the American educational model, students can develop a broader worldview, connect with different cultures, and strengthen the skills needed to thrive in international professional environments. This education allows them to understand diverse realities, question ideas, and discover new possibilities for their future.

The visit of Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas represented an opportunity to strengthen reflection, broaden horizons, and recognize that the ideas, questions, and participation of young people are also part of building the future of Mexico.
